Summer enrichment programs

The Ohio State University Max M. Fisher College of Business is dedicated to the educational success of every student and is actively working to meet each one of these students — and future students — where they are.

For prospective and admitted students interested in business, Fisher’s Undergraduate Programs Office offers a number of summer enrichment and diversity programs.

“These innovative programs demonstrate Fisher’s commitment to providing new and prospective students with greater access to higher education, and to cultivating in them the vital skills and knowledge to succeed as leaders on campus,” said Elliot Bendoly, associate dean for undergraduate students and programs at Fisher. “We are dedicated to fostering the diversity of thought, experience and perspective of every student at Fisher, and these summer enrichment programs provide a tremendous opportunity to deliver on that mission.”

The Mary Helen Wolfe Chandler Future Women in Business Summit

The annual event connects young women, including first-generation and underrepresented minority students, with opportunities to explore business careers.

Named for Mary Helen Wolfe Chandler, the college’s first recorded female graduate, the summit aims to prepare and educate young women, primarily rising high school seniors from across Ohio, about business. Attendees participate in a variety of workshops, led by company representatives and Fisher alumnae, on topics that include personality assessments, personal branding, goal setting, implicit bias and business etiquette.

Fisher alumnae share their professional journeys and insights through panel discussions. Attendees network with Fisher alumnae from a variety of business specializations and industries including marketing, logistics, accounting, operations, and consulting. The summit also provides opportunities for students to engage with the event’s sponsor, Deloitte.

Business Bootcamp

High school students from across Ohio who are considering Fisher have the opportunity to engage with current students, alumni, faculty, business leaders, recruiters, and other motivated high school students at Business Bootcamp.

The one-day event includes workshops with top Fisher faculty and staff members and company recruiters that explore financial aid, student involvement opportunities and introductions to professional development.

“Business Bootcamp is one of the best ways for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to learn how to navigate the college application process at Fisher and Ohio State, while experiencing what it’s like to be a Buckeye,” said Patricia Jefferson, director of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment. “It’s a great introduction to many of the foundational pillars of the Fisher experience.”

Fisher F.I.R.S.T.

Fisher F.I.R.S.T. (Focusing on Inclusion and Readiness for a Successful Transition) is a year-long program, with an early-arrival component, for underrepresented and first-generation college students admitted into Fisher. The program provides students with a head start on their college experience by connecting them with a community of support, including peer mentors, beginning their first day on campus and continuing through graduation.

“The Fisher F.I.R.S.T. program was truly an eye-opening experience for me,” said Cameron Drum, a finance student at Fisher. “I thought being a first-generation college student was going to be tough and challenging, but this program provided me the skills and resources I needed to be a successful student. I couldn’t think of a better way to begin my college journey.”

Fisher F.I.R.S.T. participants develop an immediate sense of belonging at the college and at Ohio State, cultivate time-management and study skills, connect with academic and career-management resources available at Fisher, learn from student mentors and business leaders, nurture leadership and personal development skills, and receive ongoing support from a dedicated program manager.
