Winter College gathering

Highlighting the exciting work that is being conducted around principled leadership at Fisher, the college recently met with alumni and friends in Naples, Florida, as part of its annual Winter College event.

Winter College provides faculty, staff and students the opportunity to share news about the innovative programs, curriculum and research that is helping distinguish Fisher as a leader in business education.

Dr. Tim Judge, the executive director of the Fisher Leadership Initiative and Alutto Chair in Leadership Effectiveness at Fisher, delivered the event’s keynote. In addition to providing an update about the Leadership Initiative, its mission and the ways it is delivering on it, Judge shared insights from his research — work that has set him apart as the most influential author in industrial and organizational psychology, according to the journal Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice.

Ty Shepfer, senior lecturer and director of Fisher’s Honors Cohort, and two undergraduate students shared their experiences with a program designed to prepare future business leaders for unexpected crises. The first-ever Crisis Leadership Case Competition was a simulation, conducted in collaboration with the Fisher Leadership Initiative, that thrust Cohort students onto the senior leadership teams of fictional companies where they were faced with responding to a global crisis.

The competition provided the students with the opportunity to apply their technical skills to a number of facets of the case — including brand management and investor relations. It also helped crystallize the importance of strong, effective and principled leadership in the face of crisis.

Alumnus Chuck Bramlage (BSBA ’82), CEO of Yamo Pharmaceuticals, spoke with event attendees about the exciting work his firm is doing in the pharmaceutical space and how his business education and experience at Ohio State helped shape his desire to treat and cure society’s most pressing illnesses.

“Events like these, as well as the countless others that Fisher holds across the country and around the world, are great opportunities to showcase how we’re moving the needle in the creation of leaders — be it our talented and driven students, our prolific faculty and researchers, our dedicated staff or our incredible alumni who are changing the world in their own, unique ways,” said Anil K. Makhija, dean and John W. Berry, Sr. Chair in Business at Fisher.

“I look forward to continuing these conversations with our alumni and friends and sharing with them the continued success of our entire college community.”
